Melt butter in a wide pot, then add remaining ingredients.

Heat without lid, stir occassionally until the mixture passes the 'drop test' - put a drop of the mixture in cold water and you should be able to shape the drop into a lump.

Pour the mixture into a baking tray covered with baking paper appx. 20x30cm - set out to cool.

Cut caramels.
